About me

Hello, my name is Colleen Contreras and I have been tutoring Mathematics for 32 years. I majored in Mathematics in junior college, and ended up working there for 8 1/2 years, first as a student tutor, then progressing to a full time staff member for the Math Dept. After that, I tutored privately for a number of years, full time. Eight years ago I took a job at a charter school working with grades 9 through 12, as the school Math Tutor. I worked with both individuals and small groups, helping in Math Lab and classrooms, especially with students who have lower level skills. I have worked with many Special Education students as well.

I've always been successful using a personalized approach with my tutoring, tailoring my teaching style to my student's learning style and individual needs. I love the flexibility of one-on-one tutoring. I can easily find their gaps in learning, so I can bring their skills up to where they need to be . My goal is to increase my student's skills along with their confidence, which I have found to be the winning combination for success. I am able to connect with my students at their level and break down difficult concepts to make them understandable.

I have worked with students of all ages, from elementary school to college level. The youngest student I have had was 5 years old and the oldest was 71. I can tutor any math class a student takes up through high school and most community college math classes. My range of classes are: Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Beginning, Intermediate, and College Level Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Trig/Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Math for Elementary School Teachers, Business Calculus, and Finite Math.
